Enhance Your Job Performance with Exercise

Did you know that by exercising you could become a better worker? Exercise has wonderful health benefits and one of them is enhancing your job performance at your place of employment. Many jobs wear us down, but it is possible to beat the 9-to-5 blues.

Exercise and Your Brain

Simply walking for 30 minutes three to four times a week can improve your brainpower. This is beneficial to people of all ages. As you get older, your brainpower decreases, so when you exercise, you are protecting not only your body, but your mind as well. Exercise also promotes the growth of new cells in the learning center of your brain. New cell growth allows you to have the ability to learn faster and retain more information. In essence, exercise makes you smarter, which will definitely enhance your job performance.

Stress Release

It doesn’t matter how stressed you get, stress is not always healthy for your body. Physically fit people tend to have fewer stress-related health problems. A high-stress and low-fitness lifestyle can leave you open to a number of illnesses, such as colds and the flu. The more sick days you use at work, the less work is actually getting done. Exercise will help boost your system, helping you feel healthier and more productive, which will result in enhancing your job performance.

Exercising is also a great detoxification mechanism. When bodies become stress, unhealthy chemicals build up. Regular exercise helps remove the byproducts that stress brings, allowing you to release feelings of stress faster.

Physical activity is also a great outlet for anger and hostility. There are times when we can become frustrated with fellow co-workers or supervisors. Sweat the anger out and keep the peace inside the office. Working out on a regular basis will help you deal with the aggravations that rise up when you butt heads with the people you work with.

Increase Energy and Fight Fatigue

Working day to day can be tiring. At times you may feel like crawling under your desk to sneak in a nap. Feeling fatigued during the work hours does not really help you get the job done quickly and efficiently. In order to enhance your job performance, you need to be more alert throughout your day. Consistent exercise will give you a boost of energy that will help you fight fatigue. After you exercise, you will feel physically exhausted, but this is normal. Feeling tired after working out is not the same as feeling tired all day long. Keep in mind that the more consistent you are with your fitness routine, the more consistent your energy will be. When you are not physically active, your body pays the price. When you can’t function because you want to sleep all day, then the important things in life just don’t get taken care of.

Exercising also helps you sleep better at night. When your body is used to getting more rest, you will feel more energized the next day because you had a good night’s sleep. More energy during the day will help skyrocket your job performance!

In conclusion, brainpower, less stress and more energy are three very important traits that make better employees. Most companies want the best performance from their employees on a daily basis. Granted, no one will ever be the perfect employee, you can come pretty darn close. If it only takes 30 minutes of your day to improve your lifestyle, why aren’t you exercising more? Get active and become the employee that gets the raise and the bonus!
